Excursion to the Big Almaty Lake (BAO) is an excellent way to relax from the city’s bustle, breathe the fresh air, enjoy the local mountain beauty.

The Big Almaty Lake is at an altitude of 2500m, it was formed as a result of tectonic movements of the earth’s crust. The lake is visited daily by a lot of tourists, it is one of the most popular tourism objects near the city of Almaty.

The lake is in the Big Almaty Gorge, it seems that it is just in a larger pit and is surrounded by several peaks. In the east: Peak Skalisty and Sovetov, in the south: peak “Ozerny”, in the west peak “Tourist”.

Approaching close to the lake is forbidden, it is an object of national importance, because its water is used by the metropolis of Almaty. Also, near the lake begins the border zone with Kyrgyzstan, it is strongly recommended to bring the passport, otherwise there may be problems with the border guards.
